In this exciting collaboration between HEIDELBERG USA and Kennesaw State University’s School of Art and Design’s Graphic Communication students gain hands-on experience in the print industry! Through this project, students were introduced to key concepts of print production, learning the essential skills needed for a career in graphic communications.

Throughout the project, students explored the differences between offset and digital printing, learned how to set up files for print, mastered the use of spot colors, and discovered the importance of preflighting and how it can effect your final product.

The project included the creation of a beverage label for a beverage of their choice, printed on the Gallus One digital inkjet press with 4-color process plus spot white. Students also designed a beverage carrier, printed on 24 pt board, which was then cut and finished using the Easymatrix 106 CS and Diana Easy 115.

This collaboration not only exposed students to the technical aspects of printing, but also emphasized how print remains a crucial part of the graphic communications industry in our increasingly digital world. It also showed how print can be an exciting and viable career path for future designers and artists.

Watch this video to see the students’ creative designs come to life, and learn more about how print is integrated into education and industry!
