New Decision Guide from Xeikon and Inkjet Insight Can Help

BOSTON, Mass. and ITASCA, Illinois, April 21, 2021―A digital press is no small investment, and deciding which is the right one can be tough for any print service provider. Much has been written on inkjet technology, and the same can be said for toner-based presses. But the same cannot be said for comparisons between the two technologies, which is arguably the most fundamental choice to ponder when considering this major purchase.

Although the vast majority of Xeikon presses are toner-based, the company has commissioned Inkjet Insight, one of the industry’s top analyst firms, to draft a decision guide examining the pluses and minuses of each technology. And it draws some interesting conclusions.

In their comprehensive decision guide, Inkjet Insight analysts Elizabeth Gooding and Alexandra Pekar separate press characteristics into three “buckets:”

Media compatibility and performance
Print quality; and
Productivity

“Digital presses meeting the quality demands of the graphic arts segment are available at a wide range of prices and speeds. Some are inkjet and some are toner,” said Elizabeth Gooding, President of Inkjet Insight. “There are several scenarios where toner, and particularly LED toner, presses are quite competitive with or complementary to inkjet presses.”

“Inkjet and toner presses are often complementary and no single technology is optimal for every application,” said Xeikon America’s Director of Marketing, Donna Covannon. “We hope this decision guide will help print providers as they expand operations to capture the opportunities of the post-Covid era.”
