At Label & Narrow Web, we are always on the lookout for innovations that push the boundaries of what is possible in our industry. Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Dalia Naamani-Goldman, vice president of sales and marketing; Ben Borns, vice president of research, development, and quality; and Charley Pollock, vice president of customer innovation, from Mactac to discuss their exciting new initiative – Ask S.A.M.

This service program is set to redefine how Mactac supports its customers by offering tailored solutions to their most challenging technical problems.

The team at Mactac brings decades of industry leadership, creating a powerhouse of technical expertise to deliver innovative solutions for the most complex adhesive challenges. Mactac has stayed at the forefront of adhesive technology through continuous investment in research and development to provide the most advanced and effective solutions to its customers.

The acquisition of Spinnaker in 2022 provided more resources and technical know-how designed to drive customer performance. The acquisition included Spinnaker’s manufacturing facility and headquarters based in Troy, OH, and North American distribution centers located in Atlanta, GA Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; and, Vails Gate, NY.

Mactac’s acquisition of Spinnaker, which specialized in the customized production and distribution of pressure sensitive roll label and sheet base materials in North America, helped create an even more robust specialty labeling company.

Mactac has long been committed to providing personalized support to ensure the optimal performance of its customers’ specific adhesive applications. Mactac takes the time to understand specific needs, providing proactive and responsive support that fosters trust and ensures customer success. This collaborative approach has been prioritized with Ask S.A.M.

Here is what the experts at Mactac had to share about Ask S.A.M. and how the service is poised to make a significant impact in the label and package printing industry.

Mactac has worked diligently to provide the new Ask S.A.M. service program, which has been designed to offer excellent customer support.

L&NW: What is Ask S.A.M., and how does this new service benefit your customers?
Dalia Naamani-Goldman: Ask S.A.M.– short for Ask Spinnaker and Mactac – is a new service program designed to be the go-to resource for customers facing complex technical challenges. We developed this program to streamline customer access to our combined technical expertise and flexible production assets across various acquisitions and divisions within Mactac.

By bringing together the technical know-how from our industry-leading portfolios, we can offer solutions that are not only innovative but also tailored to the specific needs of our customers.

The benefit is clear: quick, reliable answers that directly address the complexities of adhesive technology and label applications, which ultimately helps our customers grow their business.

L&NW: How does Ask S.A.M. work in practice?
Ben Borns: The process is designed to be as simple and efficient as possible. Customers can reach out to their sales or technical representatives directly. Once we receive an inquiry, our team meets several times a week to review and prioritize these requests. We aim for a 48-hour response, which is critical in ensuring that we deliver timely solutions.

What’s unique about Ask S.A.M. is the depth of collaboration that happens behind the scenes. Our scientists from various areas of adhesive, converting, and printing expertise come together to evaluate the problem, ensuring that the response is not only quick but also robust and aligned with Mactac’s capabilities.

As an example, in one recent Ask S.A.M. project we worked with a customer on a challenging application to design a unique removeable label solution that survives harsh conditions during its service life and then removes cleanly.

L&NW: What sets Ask S.A.M. apart from other technical support services in the industry?
Charley Pollock: Because Mactac has expertise in multiple adhesive technologies – acrylic, hot melt, UV cure, and solvent – we use the best adhesive for the application at hand. We also have a robust Specialty portfolio across both Spinnaker and LINTEC that has unique solutions for niche needs.

Mactac also has versatile assets that allow us to offer shorter runs and unique constructions. In short, we can give customers precisely the solutions they need from a technical and service perspective.

Whether it’s a complex application challenge or a specific technical question, we’re here to provide solutions that help our customers grow their business.

LNW: How does Ask S.A.M. enhance the overall customer experience with Mactac and Spinnaker?
Ben Borns: Ask S.A.M. enhances the customer experience by making it easier and more convenient to benefit from the combined capabilities of Mactac and Spinnaker. This service streamlines the process of getting expert advice and technical solutions.

By bringing together the expertise from our various acquisitions and focusing on quick, reliable solutions, Ask S.A.M. truly represents a significant step forward in how we support our customers. They are also welcome to discuss this new service with Mactac’s experts that are on-hand at Labelexpo Americas and future label events. At Labelexpo Americas, Mactac will showcase the powerful synergy between Mactac, Spinnaker, Label Supply and LINTEC, with Ask S.A.M. serving as a strong representation of that collaboration. Stronger together, the companies’ combined specialties bring unique opportunities to the pressure sensitive label industry.

Mactac has strategically expanded in recent years through acquisitions of Duramark, Spinnaker and Label Supply, solidifying the company as one of the largest, most diversified suppliers of pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) in North America. In addition to Ask S.A.M., Mactac is highlighting its new and improved Vivid Chrome polypropylene film labels that offer enhanced performance and shelf appeal for food and beverage packaging, health and beauty products, and home and auto care. Mactac is also showcasing its PUREfloat APR recognized adhesive for PET containers, CHILL AT APR recognized adhesive for HDPE and PP containers, as well as a clear on clear, “no-label look” product.

“Our manufacturing and distribution footprint has grown by 50%, providing enhanced capability in film, specialty labeling and custom product development. This ensures our capacity to serve every North American geography with flexible assets and service,” adds Naamani-Goldman. “Today’s Mactac is stronger than ever, enabling us to be exceptional for our customers by helping solve their problems and grow their businesses more efficiently.”
