While the press is most often attributed to the success of a label, there are countless supplies that ensure a job’s efficiency. When printing flexographically, plate mounting is of the utmost importance. Recently, Anderson & Vreeland has touted the benefits of Bieffebi Unica mounters, which streamline this critical converting process. The newest camera technology has driven significant advantages in this market.

To learn about the benefits of these technologies, as well as the latest trends in the label and package printing industry, L&NW spoke to Shelly Swanke, Director of Digital Solutions and Equipment, Anderson & Vreeland.

L&NW: How is the narrow web industry mounting these days, and what considerations are important for a manual process?

SS: The narrow web printing industry relies on outdated, labor-intensive methods, which introduces a high risk of operator error. This inefficiency leads to significant downtime for remounting plates, reducing overall productivity. As quality standards in the industry continue to rise, it is imperative that the equipment keeps pace with these evolving demands.

Additionally, mounting systems must adapt to workforce challenges, as the availability of experienced operators diminishes and frequent personnel turnover becomes more common. Upgrading to advanced, automated solutions will be essential in maintaining efficiency, consistency, and meeting the growing expectations of the industry.

L&NW: How do the newest technologies help foster faster make-ready times?

SS: In our experience, camera technology makes all the difference. A higher resolution camera has the ability to adjust point of focus to account for different repeats in sleeve applications.

Bieffebi’s patented Traffic Light Software confirms to the operators that the flexo plates are mounted correctly and in perfect register, regardless the operator discretion. Due to this software, operators will be able to take reports and store job coordinates for future print jobs.

L&NW: How does automation help with reducing down time?

SS: Automation combined with traffic light software frees the operators up to do other tasks and ensures perfect registration. This allows the operator to mount faster and more efficiently. This technology can be found in both the Unica 324 semi-automatic mounter and the Automa 374 fully automatic mounter with a robotic table. The Automa 374 for narrow web standardizes the mounting process and avoids any operator error in mounting.

L&NW: How will operators find working with the Bieffebi Unica mounters?

SS: Operators will appreciate the efficiency and precision of the Bieffebi Unica mounters, which streamline the mounting process with rapid sleeve changeovers and automatic camera focus. The intuitive, user-friendly technology ensures reliability and minimizes the need for manual adjustments between jobs, allowing for a smoother workflow.

Additionally, the optional cutting device enhances accuracy by precisely cutting both tape and sleeve, reducing sleeve damage and ensuring a flawless plate seam. With these advanced features, operators can expect a highly efficient, hassle-free experience that optimizes productivity while maintaining consistent quality.

L&NW: How does collaborating with the A&V team help ensure success in this area?

SS: Partnering with the A&V team provides invaluable expertise and support, ensuring seamless implementation and long-term success. Their highly trained engineers and field support technicians, stationed across North America, bring deep knowledge of Bieffebi technology, offering responsive and localized assistance.

Beyond technical guidance, A&V enhances accessibility with flexible financing options and strategic bundling of consumables and equipment, making advanced technology more cost-effective and readily available to businesses. With this comprehensive approach, companies can confidently invest in efficiency and innovation while minimizing financial barriers.
