Schreiner MediPharm,a developer and manufacturer of functional labels for the healthcare industry, has expanded its Needle-Trap needle protection system. The label with an integrated needle trap is now available for large-volume syringes, specifically addressing the evolving requirements for advanced biologics and biosimilars. At Pharmapack Europe, January 21-22 in Paris, the company will showcase this latest version of Needle-Trap at Booth 4B18.

The market for biologics and biosimilars is continuously evolving and expanding, presenting pharmaceutical manufacturers with new primary packaging and delivery device challenges. Highly viscous active pharma ingredients (APIs) with larger molecular structures increasingly require higher-volume syringes capable of containing up to 5 ml. Reliable protection against needlestick injuries must be adapted accordingly to ensure safe production processes and reliable end user functionality.

To address these demands, Schreiner MediPharm has expanded its portfolio of Needle-Trap needle protection solutions to suit 2.25-ml-, 3-ml-, and 5-ml syringes. To achieve this upsizing, the system’s design and function have been adapted to ensure reliable protective performance for large-volume syringes. Extensive tests ensure reliable production at Schreiner MediPharm’s facilities, as well as smooth processing on labeling equipment used by pharmaceutical manufacturers.

The key advantages of Needle-Trap are fully retained for large-volume syringes and even partly enhanced. Compared to conventional needle protection systems or autoinjectors, Needle-Trap’s compact design enables significantly reduced materials consumption, costs, and CO₂ emissions. At the same time, pharmaceutical manufacturers benefit from efficient integration into existing infrastructure. Processing occurs on conventional dispensing systems, and secondary packaging remains unchanged. Economy and sustainability are evident along the entire supply chain, from reduced space requirements for storage, transportation, and cooling, to more environmentally friendly disposal.

During Pharmapack, those visiting Schreiner MediPharm’s Booth 4B18 can obtain detailed insights into the evolution of the needle protection system, and learn about the company’s broader portfolio of multifunctional specialty labels for the pharmaceutical industry. Schreiner MediPharm will showcase how innovative label solutions can make an important contribution to safety, sustainability, and efficiency in the pharma supply chain.
