The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) has announced the appointment of John McDowell, president of McDowell — A Resource Label Group Company, to its Board of Directors. A long-standing FTA member since 1997 and a leader in the printing and packaging sector, McDowell brings decades of experience, innovation, and cultural stewardship to the association’s leadership team. 

McDowell’s career took an unexpected and meaningful turn early on. After serving as an owner/operator of the world’s largest Gold’s Gym licensee at the time, a personal experience led him to divest from the fitness industry and join his family’s business, McDowell Label. What began as a temporary role quickly sparked a new passion – to help fulfill his father’s dream of uniting all three McDowell brothers in the company and to build upon the family’s legacy in the printing industry. 

Under his leadership, McDowell Label experienced a revitalization anchored in a culture of printing excellence and unwavering commitment to craft. Though the McDowell name has appeared on numerous national and global industry awards, John consistently attributes the company’s success to the people behind the work, emphasizing the power of a unified culture over any technology. His philosophy of “One Company, One Team, One Purpose” continues to guide the organization and inspire the next generation of packaging professionals. 

Reflecting on his appointment, McDowell shares his appreciation for the opportunity. He says, “I am humbled by the respect of my industry peers to be elected to serve as a board member for the FTA. There is so much storied lore within the rich heritage of the FTA. I will purpose to honor the legacy of this vital association while being equally motivated with the responsibility to advance the flexographic and package printing industry for the next generation of LIFT (Leaders Inspiring Flexography’s Tomorrow).” 

FTA president Nathan Ridnouer praised McDowell’s long standing commitment to innovation and community within the industry, noting, “John is a leader who embodies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and passion that defines this industry. His commitment to fostering excellence has impacted not only his own organization but the broader flexographic community. We are thrilled to welcome him to the FTA Board and look forward to the insight, energy, and integrity he brings to the association.”

McDowell’s career achievements include induction into the Ben Franklin Honor Society, service on the TLMI Board of Directors, and numerous speaking engagements for FTA, TLMI, and the Printing United Alliance.
