Ravenwood Packaging has partnered with Troya Alimentos to launch what the companies say is Mexico’s first linerless, tray-based packaging solution for fresh produce, replacing plastic nets and traditional labels with a more sustainable, retail-ready format.

The program utilizes Ravenwood’s Nobac linerless labeling system in combination with fiber-based TrayCycle trays, enabling Troya to package a range of products—including avocados, tomatoes, citrus, mangos, and seasonal produce—across 20 SKUs.

The Nobac system supports production speeds of up to 50 packs per minute for smaller trays and 20–25 packs per minute for larger formats, while simplifying operation on the packing line. Labels are supplied by Reflex Labels.

Launched in January 2026, the initiative has expanded rapidly, growing from 50,000 packs in its first month to 75,000 packs across 50 stores in month two, with a target of 200,000 packs across 150 stores in the near term. Distribution currently spans Mexico City and key regions from Tulum to Los Cabos, with plans to supply Amazon Fresh Mexico City following trial runs.

By eliminating plastic nets and liner waste, the system supports ongoing efforts to reduce single-use plastics while improving pack presentation and handling.

Early feedback from both retailers and consumers has been positive, with Troya noting strong interest in the new packaging format.

Ravenwood says the project highlights the growing role of linerless labeling and fiber-based packaging solutions in fresh produce applications, particularly as sustainability requirements continue to evolve.
