Toray Plastics (America), Inc.’s, recent installation of new coating technology has enabled the company to broaden its LumiLid brand polyester lidding film platform and cater to customers’ needs for advanced specialty lidding films. Value-added clear, white, and metallized lidding film structures that incorporate specialty performance sealant layers and deliver specified performance and seal-strength characteristics are increasingly sought.

“The global market for lidding films is expanding,” says Milan Moscaritolo, senior director of sales, Toray Plastics (America). “Toray is an established innovator of value-added packaging film structures and the new production capacity allows us to present an enhanced and expanded lidding platform and serve our customers better. Barrier performance, economic value, and the availability of specialty lidding films in varying widths when they are needed, afford customers a distinct competitive advantage.” Moscaritolo notes that lidding for the packaging of meat, produce, dairy items, refrigerated and frozen foods, puddings, applesauce, desserts, wet and dry foods, and specialty items is especially popular.

Toray’s LumiLid clear, white, and metalized lidding films, provide excellent oxygen barrier and are FDA-compliant and dual-ovenable. In addition, they offer an environment-friendly, solvent-free formulation and low seal initiation temperature (SIT), and supply a clean, secure seal, even on pleated corners, to APET, APET-coated board, CPET, PP, HDPE, and HIPS trays. Value-added LumiLid lidding films also act as an important marketing tool for the end user because they are printable, affording more billboard space for a brand message, and they deliver an easy, clean peel which gives consumers a positive product experience.
