From startup to R&D-driven partner, Cyngient has built a reputation for helping label converters solve technical challenges, push print performance, and deliver award-winning packaging for brand owners.

Since its founding, Cyngient has quietly built a reputation as one of the label industry’s most technically innovative and responsive suppliers of inks, coatings, and adhesives. As the Fairfield, NJ-based company approaches the 10-year milestone since its launch, that reputation has grown alongside an expanding customer base, a dedicated research and development facility, and a philosophy centered on collaboration with converters.
For managing partner Andrew Wasserman, who founded the company with fellow managing partner John Dreyer, Cyngient’s growth reflects both persistence and a commitment to listening closely to the needs of both converters and brand owners.
“We bootstrapped this company from the ground up with no customers,” Wasserman recalls. “Then came the challenges of COVID and raw material shortages — but through it all, our passion to grow, adapt, and serve our customers never wavered.”
Today, Cyngient serves more than 400 customers throughout North America, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The company focuses on developing inks, coatings, and adhesives for applications across prime labels, health and beauty, beverage, pharmaceutical, food packaging and more.
Over the years, Cyngient has grown from a fledgling startup operation into a dedicated research and development center designed to support label and package printing converters facing increasingly complex packaging demands.
Built for Innovation
Central to Cyngient’s approach is its investment in application development and real-world testing.
The company’s expanded facility now includes two advanced application laboratories and small- and large-batch manufacturing capabilities. The labs support work across UV, LED, and water-based chemistries, allowing the Cyngient team to develop and validate products under real press conditions.
Close collaboration with press OEMs has also become a key part of the company’s development strategy, enabling new materials and formulations to be tested directly on production equipment.
This hands-on environment allows Cyngient to accelerate product development while ensuring that solutions perform reliably once they reach converter production floors.
Unlike larger suppliers focused primarily on scale and mass production, Wasserman says Cyngient has intentionally built its business around flexibility.
“At Cyngient, entrepreneurship isn’t measured only by cost or ROI,” he says. “It’s about making a difference — creating innovations that elevate the appearance, performance, and overall impact of every label and package.”
Delivering Results for Converters
That philosophy has translated into strong relationships with label converters focused on pushing the limits of decoration, performance, and shelf appeal.
John McDowell, whose Texas-based company McDowell Label has earned numerous industry awards, says Cyngient’s technologies have helped the company achieve high-fidelity graphics and specialty effects that stand out in competitive markets.
“Andrew and I often joke that we must have originally met at the Gutenberg Museum, given our shared passion for the package printing industry,” McDowell says. “But the truth is that Andrew identified McDowell Label early on as a company that could benefit from Cyngient’s technologies.”
Through ongoing collaboration, the two companies developed a trusted working relationship that has supported McDowell Label’s pursuit of high-end print performance.
“Cyngient isn’t the largest ink supplier — and likely doesn’t want to be,” McDowell says. “But they are a technical leader in their category with a robust portfolio of ink solutions and technologies.”
McDowell notes that Cyngient’s subject-matter expertise and responsiveness have made the company a valuable supply chain partner.
“Their support and responsiveness to technical questions is second to none,” he says. “Whether it’s specialty coatings, transparent inks, printed adhesives, or immersive specialty inks, Cyngient plays a key role in helping us deliver innovative packaging for our customers.”
For McDowell, collaboration with Cyngient has contributed to several award-winning label projects, including a TLMI Best in Class Award as well as a World Label Award.
Supporting Growth
Cyngient’s ability to respond quickly to converter needs has also resonated with companies focused on scaling their operations.
Remy Janco, vice president of Janco Press, a high-end label manufacturer in Bohemia, NY, says the company’s innovation-driven approach helps converters expand the creative possibilities they offer to brand owners.
“Cyngient is exactly what a scaling converting business looks for in a partner,” Janco says. “Their customer-centric approach and commitment to continuous innovation allow us to consistently offer brands new and creative ways to decorate their packaging.”
Janco adds that reliability and consistency have been equally important. He says, “Andrew and his team produce high-quality products time and time again.”
True Industry Partnership
For many converters, Cyngient’s value lies not only in its chemistry but also in the collaborative approach the company brings to solving customer challenges.
Leslie Gurland, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Premium Label & Packaging Solutions (PLPS), says that responsiveness and technical partnership have been central to the relationship.
“From the perspective of our sales team, Andrew Wasserman is the go-to person when it comes to innovation and thinking outside the box,” she says.
Gurland notes that the word “partnership” is often used casually in business relationships, but she believes the collaboration with Cyngient truly reflects the meaning.
“Partnership is an overused word,” she says. “But with Andrew and Cyngient, it really means something. PLPS is now the third label company where I’ve worked with Andrew and his team, and I trust them as much as anyone in the industry.”
For a converter focused on delivering high-end packaging solutions to brand owners, that technical responsiveness can make a significant difference.
“A company our size needs a partner who can respond quickly and work with us on the technology side,” Gurland adds. “That’s exactly what we get with Cyngient — a responsive partner dedicated to helping us innovate.”
Cyngient the Problem Solver
Cyngient’s collaborative model has also proven valuable for converters operating in complex international markets.
David Lewis, CEO of Label House in Trinidad and Tobago, says his company’s diverse product mix and demanding customer base often require creative technical solutions.
Label House operates the most diverse label printing operation in the Caribbean, employing roughly 200 people and running production around the clock. The company produces a wide range of packaging formats including shrink sleeves, wraparound labels, glue-applied beer labels, metallized paper labels, and flexible pouches. And Label House serves the most prominent multinational brand owners.
Lewis says Wasserman’s entrepreneurial mindset and technical expertise have made him a valuable partner.
“He’s a real entrepreneur with a great story and a true solutions provider in the label and narrow web industry,” Lewis says.
As Label House expands into new applications such as films and pouches, Cyngient has helped address technical challenges ranging from adhesive primers to overprint performance.
“We were referred to Andrew by a prominent press manufacturer,” Lewis explains. “He came in and solved problems that even the OEM couldn’t resolve.”
For Lewis, that kind of support has become a defining part of the relationship.
“When you have a problem on press, you go to him,” he says. “He’s a problem solver.”
Lewis adds that Wasserman maintains a hands-on approach with the company, regularly visiting the Trinidad facility and assisting with ink formulation and process optimization.
“We run our own ink dispensing operation and work with a variety of suppliers,” Lewis says. “But when it comes to ink mixing issues, it’s Andrew and Cyngient that we call.”
Continuing to Raise the Bar
As the label and packaging industry continues to evolve, Wasserman believes the opportunity for innovation is only growing.
Converters are facing increasing pressure to deliver more — more decoration, more functionality, faster turnaround, and greater sustainability. Meeting those demands often requires chemistry that performs not just in the lab, but on press.
For Cyngient, that challenge has become the company’s purpose.
“At the end of the day,” Wasserman concludes, “We don’t just make inks, coatings, and adhesives — we elevate them.”
And if the past decade is any indication, the company intends to keep pushing the boundaries of what those materials can do for converters and the brands they serve.
