After a long break due to the pandemic, Delta ModTech welcomed attendees to its Technology Showcase on October 11-12, 2022. Nearly 200 guests joined the converting and packaging specialist at its new 230,000 square-foot facility for education, networking, live product demonstrations and inspiration. Plus, Delta ModTech hosted a tabletop featuring key OEM partners like Domino, Markem Imaje, Maxcess, Meech and more. During the event, which boasted the theme, “Gear Up,” Delta ModTech emphasized solutions for VUCA – Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity. “As manufacturers and leaders, we have to chart a course,” explained Wendy Stromberg, director of people and culture, Delta ModTech. “The point of this event is to provide you with tools and leadership development. We also plan to show you how our equipment, technology, software, and strong partnership capabilities are the tools needed to provide flexibility to deal with VUCA in our world.” In discussing the company’s newest equipment with L&NW, Dave Grenwis, marketing manager, Delta ModTech, cited the company’s versatility. Label converters can use Delta ModTech’s equipment for more basic finishing needs, but the equipment has also been optimized for complex contract converting and packaging solutions – providing additional opportunities for revenue. “We want to help our customers with the common refrain, ‘I didn’t know you did that,’” said Mike Schehr. “We’re focused on how can we equip you with the correct hardware for new jobs or to modify existing jobs.” The Technology Showcase featured several notable keynote presentations, including David Lang, Senior vice president, Engineering, Manufacturing & Innovation, LumiraDx. He outlined how Delta ModTech has played a role in LumiraDx’s success. Delta ModTech built a number of LumiraDx’s manufacturing equipment to produce point of care tests for Point Of Care settings around the world. These Point Of Care tests include tests in aid of diagnosis for Covid-19, D-Dimer (DVT), HbA1c (diabetes), CRP (inflammation marker) and INR (blood coagulation). Delta’s fast delivery and flexibility has helped LumiraDx meet customer demand. In choosing their partner, Lang stated, “A run of the mill equipment developer would slow us down, not enable us to speed up,” stated Lang. “Delta ModTech came out strongest in our objective scoring assessment and matrix. It’s been a strong partnership with them”. “Delta ModTech was comfortable dealing with ambiguity and was willing to share risk with us,” added Lang. In addition to Lang’s presentation, war hero John Kriesel joined the event to provide perspective on perseverance, teamwork, and attitude. During the event’s panel discussions, company experts explored Delta ModTech’s newest technologies designed to increase efficiency and faster times to market. A panel featuring Michael Schehr, Joel Oakes, Todd Kruse, and Cameron Bell discussed sensor to laser setup versus camera to die registration, as well as the best setup for optimized tight tolerance cutting or placement. Delta ModTech also announced the launch of ModTech Connect™, a real-time monitoring system for data analytics that functions in line with IoT technologies. This new platform will help operators and production managers gather registration information, acquire data as the machine is running, and provide efficiencies to improve production and maintenance scheduling. ModTech Connect will also provide trends in data that the operator might not have seen. The information provided by the platform can be accessed on phones anywhere, any time, and it can be tailored to a converter’s unique machine setup or a manager’s specific preferences. Additionally, Delta ModTech’s new Crusader FLEX line has been designed to bring flexibility to a new level while reducing machine downtime. The machine features integrated edge guide steering, movable spindles, t-slots for numerous bolt on accessories, and the new IntelliMOD HMI, which adds new features to the HMI for easier recollection when switching between projects. The enhanced Crusader FLEX also includes more software capabilities. For various packaging needs, Delta ModTech has prioritized the use of robotics to drive efficiency. Delta’s newly released MODbotics robotic chassis provides dispensing and pick & place capabilities in a modular package. Frontier – a Delta ModTech Company also explained how its coating and drying equipment can assist converters with a wide range of products, from film and foil to multi-layer drug patches. The company’s portfolio offers solutions for adhesives, batteries, fuel cells and packaging materials. “Our goal is to provide modular coating and drying solutions,” said Frontier’s Matt Madsen. “We want to enable our customers to work faster in a more controlled and repeatable manner. We’re also not just identifying the needs of the industry today; we’re looking at customer’s needs 5-10 years from now.”
