TLMI members got to visit Lambeau Field as part of the tour of Green Bay Packaging.

Appvion and Green Bay Packaging teamed up to host the third annual TLMI LLT (Label Leaders of Tomorrow) Excursion from July 15-16. The two Wisconsin-based companies hosted educational sessions and facility tours for 53 attendees, while also providing ample time for networking and fun.

Appvion, which boasts a 115-year legacy, provides sustainable specialty coating solutions used in everyday tickets, tags, labels, and packaging. Meanwhile, Green Bay Packaging is a family-owned, American-made manufacturer delivering sustainable and innovative packaging solutions.

“The Label Leaders of Tomorrow Excursion has quickly become one of TLMI’s most inspiring and sought-after events,” states Linnea Keen, president and CEO, TLMI. “Each year, we witness the incredible passion and expertise of our members, and this year was no exception. Appvion and Green Bay Packaging Coated Products went above and beyond to make this year’s experience unforgettable.

“From the early planning stages to the final moments onsite, both teams demonstrated unwavering enthusiasm and hospitality,” adds Keen. “Their facility tours showcased not only impressive operations but also the deep pride they have in their work and community. The evening networking dinners, hosted at their private venues, added a personal and memorable touch that truly elevated the experience.”

Appvion and Green Bay Packaging Coated Products curated two standout networking evenings. On the first night, Appvion hosted attendees at The Farmhouse, a beautiful venue managed by the talented William “Billy” Van Sambeek. Here, attendees enjoyed s’mores, yard games, and meaningful conversations in a relaxed setting. The second evening featured a tour of the historic Lambeau Field, followed by a reception and dinner at Green Bay Packaging’s private venue, The Packer House—a dream destination for any Packers fan.

The LLT Vision

The LLT Excursion was borne from the vision of co-chairs CRG’s Ginnie Gandy, Domino’s Mike Barry, and Winpak’s Katie Harrington. They recognized the need for deeper connections among those new to the industry or early in their careers. Their goal was to create an event that mirrors the camaraderie our veteran members enjoy, while offering content tailored to emerging leaders.

“This event has become a cornerstone for fostering those connections, providing a space where attendees can learn, grow, and build lasting relationships,” notes Keen. “Many attendees shared that this was their first TLMI or LLT event, and they appreciated the intimate scale. The smaller group size allowed for more meaningful interactions and helped ease the nerves that can come with attending a larger industry event for the first time.”

“These experiences fostered genuine connections and left a lasting impression,” comments Dale Coates, COO, TLMI. “Session highlights included engaging presentations from passionate team members at both companies. One standout was Gayle Harrop from Tamarack Products, who brought her session to life with interactive props and audience participation. We also hosted a dynamic session on AI, where attendees broke into groups to discuss how they’re integrating AI into their professional and personal lives—an approach that encouraged collaboration and idea-sharing.”

“Nothing brings people together like a little friendly competition,” adds Gandy. “Appvion’s Farmhouse was the perfect setting to unwind, and yes, Mike beat me, but I’ll get him next time. This group works hard and knows how to have fun. LLT is quickly becoming one of the most connected groups in TLMI.”

For Barry, the tours served as a highlight of the event. “Touring Green Bay Packaging’s Coated Products facility was a standout moment for me,” he says. “Seeing the scale and precision of their operation up close was impressive and sparked some great conversations. And I think we all agreed—Appvion’s fancy water machine? Total game-changer. This group knows how to learn, laugh, and stay hydrated.”

Future TLMI events

For those who missed this year’s Excursion, all sessions and presentations are available on TLMI Community. TLMI is still welcoming bids for the 2026 hosts. Selections will take place after the new year, so interested companies should submit their application soon by contacting office@tlmi.com.

The next major event on the TLMI calendar is the 2025 Annual Meeting, taking place in Marco Island, FL. There, LLT will continue to build on the connections they’ve made. Registration for the Annual Meeting is now open, and the early bird rate for members is available until August 1, 2025.

“We encourage all members to invest in the next generation of leaders—not just through events, but in everyday moments at their companies,” says Keen.
